Most designers ask what you like. I ask who you are.
There’s a difference — and you feel it in every room. Most interior designers begin with aesthetics — your style, your Pinterest board, your favorite materials. I begin with identity. My background in brand strategy means I approach every project the way a brand strategist approaches a new client: by asking deep questions about who you are, what you stand for, and what story you want your space to tell.
It's a more holistic way of working. And for clients who want a home that truly reflects who they are, it makes all the difference.
From there, every design decision — from the overall spatial flow to the smallest hardware detail — is made in service of that identity. Color isn't just chosen because it's beautiful. Color isn't just chosen because it's beautiful. It's chosen because it communicates something true about you. Materials aren't just selected for their quality. They're selected because they belong to your story.
This approach also shapes how I think about the relationship between interior and landscape. Just as a brand expresses itself consistently across every touchpoint, a home should express its identity consistently across every space — from the entry hall to the garden. The flow between inside and outside, the way the landscape frames the architecture, the planting choices that root the home in its region — all of it is part of the same narrative.
How is your process different from a traditional interior designer?
“Nadine made everything about our Bozeman home better. From the incredible library to repurposing the original 1904 front door as a closet door, the metal screens on the open staircase, and the kids’ trundle bedroom—every detail feels thoughtful and special. In a quick but brilliant decision, Nadine reconfigured the upstairs hall to make it feel like a true room, transforming the entire second floor. And the finishes? Absolutely amazing. Her taste and unique touches are visible everywhere. Most importantly, Nadine truly gets our vibe. Friends and family walk in and say, ‘This looks like you.’ Mark and I couldn’t be happier.”
— bozeman historyWhat does it mean that you approach design through a branding lens?
I treat every client as a brand — with a distinct identity, a set of values, and a story that deserves to be told through their space. Before I choose a single finish or fixture, I invest deeply in understanding who you are. That discovery becomes the foundation for every design decision we make together. The result is a home that communicates identity, tells your story, and feels unmistakably yours.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is your process different from a traditional interior designer?
Most designers begin with aesthetics. I begin with identity. My background in brand strategy means every design decision — from spatial flow to the smallest hardware detail — is made in service of who you are. That thinking extends to the landscape too: just as a brand expresses itself consistently across every touchpoint, your home should express its identity across every space, inside and out.
What areas do you serve?
Studio Stellavato serves clients across Seattle and the greater Pacific Northwest — including Bellevue, the Eastside, and Portland — Montana, with projects in Bozeman, Whitefish, Big Sky, and surrounding areas, and the Big Island of Hawaii, including Kailua-Kona, Waimea, and the Kohala Coast. Both interior and landscape design services are available across all regions.
Do you offer landscape design as well as interior design?
Yes — and for us, the two are inseparable. We think of the landscape as an extension of the home — not a separate project. The garden, the terrace, the entry approach are rooms too, with flow, function, and feeling. When interior and exterior are conceived together, the result is a home that feels complete in a way that's hard to achieve any other way.
Do you offer full-service interior design or just consulting? We offer comprehensive, full-service interior and landscape design — guiding projects from initial concept and space planning all the way through construction oversight, procurement, and final installation and styling.
What types of projects do you take on?
What makes your landscape design approach different?
Can you handle both interior and landscape design for my project? This is our preferred way to work. When one studio holds the vision for the full property, every decision is made with the whole home in mind — palette, materials, spatial flow, and the relationship between indoor and outdoor living. We treat the full property as a single, continuous design. Clients who've worked with us on both consistently say it's what made their home feel truly finished in a way that is unique to them.
How do I get started? The first step is a consultation where we get to know you, your home, and your goals — for the interior, the landscape, or both. From there we'll share a proposal and outline the full process. Reach out through our let’s talk page to begin.
We start from the inside out — designing the landscape to flow naturally from the interior so the transition between spaces feels seamless and intentional. We also partner with a regional plant specialist for every project, ensuring the design is rooted in native plantings suited to the local climate — whether that's the Pacific Northwest or Montana.
We work on full home renovations, new construction interiors, furnishings-only projects, and full landscape design for private residences — from single-room transformations to complete home and grounds commissions. Every project is approached as a holistic design collaboration.
